Jack McCabe was born and raised in the northwest side of Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from St Francis Borgia Elementary School in 1965 and Holy Cross High School in 1969. He was 17 when he graduated and two days after he turned 18 he joined the Army. He was sent to Vietnam less than a year later in October of 1970. He extended for a second tour and finally came home for good at the end of May 1972. He finished his three-year enlistment at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and returned home to Chicago.

I have written two books on Vietnam. One is WHEN WE CAME HOME about the coming home experiences of Vietnam veterans. The other is THOSE LEFT BEHIND about a helicopter crash in Vietnam and the effect on the families of those lost.
